I completely disagree with all those that says the rioters are just mindless thugs. Even the most inarticulate 16 year old talking about exchanging her stolen goods in H&M gets it.
“We are taking from the rich”. “We are getting our tax back”, “we are taking the streets back from the police”. “we are telling the Government we can do what we want”.
It seems these inarticulate young black , asian and white “youth” are more aware of social justice than most .
- First Demand: True Accountability of the Police. “we are taking the streets back from the police”
The police are here to serve us. They swear an oath to uphold the common law, and serve the people, prevent breaches of peace. But they have instead become revenue collectors for the incorporated magistrates courts . According to the guardian 333 people have died in custody in the last decade and not one single police officer has been charged.
Who will police the police but the people, because it most certainly won’t be the Independent Police complaints commission.
- Second Demand Investment where it Matters – The Family.
12-17 year old kids roaming the streets, and the parents haven’t got a clue where they are. Who is responsible for this massive breakdown in family structure? British society and Government Policy. Instead of pumping millions into the banks, how about quantitive easing for the people. How many families struggle and split up because of financial difficulties. Or where the parents have to work 15 hours a day to maintain just the basics. This high cost of living is deliberately engineered in this country
I have seen tweets where a waterstone employee says they will leave the bookshop open so that when they loot it they might learn it. Doesn’t seem to have done the employee much good.
When a 16 year old kid says “we are telling the Government we can do what we want”, you don’t get more insight than that. Most people don’t even realise that the real power lies with the people, and yet this 16 year old black looter gets it. The government doesn’t serve the interests of the people, but instead serves the interests of the rich and powerful.
We need less government, not more.It seems the communities are doing a far better job of protecting their property than the government stasis.
And we also need those taking part in this mayhem to respect people’s homes and independent businesses, Because without that the moral high ground is lost and the public will forget the injustices of the authoritarian police state, and remember only the insecurity that comes with the looting of homes and independent local businesses.
